After a long wait, the weather is finally nice! This means that your legs can be seen again. Of course, we do this appropriately, because you don’t want to look like a twelve-year-old boy. But before you know it you are melting away with long pants, which is not doable, especially at work. But wearing shorts in style is not that easy, because there are a lot of things that can go wrong. And to help you through this difficult time, we have a few tips.
1 Find your style
Some of you may like the neater variety, while others may like the cool denim shorts. To make sure you don’t look ridiculous, it’s best to go for shorts that match what you normally wear in the winter months. So if you’re dressing a little more conservatively, opt for short chinos, Combined with a cotton or linen blazer you will definitely steal the show. However, if you’re more into casual, then jeans are more than fine.
2 Take your build and skin tone into account
.
An important rule that always applies is: dress how you are, not how you want to be! If something doesn’t suit you, don’t put it on. With shorts, this means taking into account the shape of your leg. If you have larger thighs, then a darker color is better for you, as you won’t create shadows. A more pronounced print can again disguise thin legs. Are you the lucky one with something in between? Then of course you can experiment with color and patterns to see what suits you. Someone with a lot of pigment, who discolors quickly, can go for the exciting, bright colors. Is milk bottle your middle name? Then stick more to neutral colors and let an exciting print do the work ;-).
3 Choose the right length
Unlike the style you choose, there is less discussion about length. Too short, and you look like a fool. Too long, and you look like a true fashion victim. The right size is just in between. The legs of your shorts should be a few inches above your knee, but not at the mid-thigh. The solution for shorts that are just too long is simple: roll them up! Trendy and very efficient.
4 Follow the trends
Okay, there’s not much room for change in shorts. But that doesn’t mean that things don’t change from time to time. The length has already become a bit shorter in recent years, and we also see prints appear regularly. An alternative color is also possible, like mint green, nice and fresh. Navy blue is ideal for endless combinations. In the end summer is all about color, isn’t it?
5 The invisible sock
When temperatures rise, the number of garments you wear decreases. Socks are often omitted. This is not the intention (unless you wear slippers of course) The invisible version of socks is what you should go for. This way you have something around your foot, but it can’t be seen from afar. This prevents sweaty feet, which nobody wants to be confronted with.
6 Swimwear is hot, even on dry land
.
As long as you don’t wear a tight tanga, swimming shorts can be worn just fine on the mainland, especially on vacation or in your free time. However, this is not as easy as you might think. Again, stick to the length rule. A second important factor is the design. That you are wearing swim shorts shouldn’t be too obvious. So that means leaving the flowers and ice cream prints for the pool. Instead, go for dark colors and classic designs. This hides the fact that your shorts are meant for the water and guarantees endless combination.
7 Last but not least: some shorts are forbidden
Every man has had one because it was in for a blue Monday; The three-quarter length shorts. Or the too-long swimming trunks that are full of surf-related pictures. In short, some pants should never be worn again. With all the textures, colors and prints on offer, it’s best not to go for anything that was hip before 2000.
Shorts, fashion?
All in all, wear shorts that you feel comfortable in. Refresh your wardrobe from time to time, so you look modern and stylish. And then we have the socks and shorts combination. Sometimes it can be done, f.i. if you have hip socks from Levi’s and cool sneakers, then definitely show your socks. But in most cases it is a no-go. So choose sneaker socks if you wear sneakers with your shorts.
