What is the difference between a morning coat and a tailcoat?

A morning coat is typically worn during the day, for example at weddings or formal ceremonies. You can spot this coat by its long, rounded back, also known as the swallowtail. It is usually paired with grey, striped trousers, a white shirt, waistcoat, and a bow tie.

A tailcoat is not only more formal, but also reserved for evening occasions. You'll see them at galas, banquets, or classical concerts. The coat is black with sharp points at the front and long 'tails' at the back. Additionally, you would wear a white shirt, a waistcoat, and a white bow tie.

Both the morning coat and the tailcoat are part of formal attire, but they clearly differ in style and when they are worn.
