The most important advice to prevent a bad purchase: create your own style. You will eventually have to do this yourself, but we are more than happy to help you get started.
There is no secret to creating your own style. Make sure you’ve built a wardrobe with clothing items that enhance your appearance. After all, you wear the clothing, not the other way around!
#1 Embrace Your Colors
It might sound very logical, but it can’t be stressed enough: choose colors that suit you. If you have warm undertones (you tan easily, have dark blond or light brown hair), colors like yellow, brown, green, or red are ideal. If you appear cooler (you have dark or gray hair and a paler complexion), blue suits you well. Once you’ve found your color, apply it to your wardrobe, without overdoing it, of course. This allows you to vary endlessly and avoid making a bad purchase.
#2 Fit it
Certain clothing items suit specific body types. Do you have sturdy calves? Opt for pleated pants with slim legs. Broader shoulders? Go for a tailored jacket. Short and stocky? Choose a fitted jacket with a hem along your hips. Tall and slender? Select a blazer that falls over your buttocks and is slim at your waist. The sooner you learn this, the fewer mistakes you’ll make.
#3 Buy in Bulk
Once you’ve found a pair of pants that fit you well and are comfortable, buy multiple pairs or in multiple colors. You’ll regret it if you’re walking around with a worn-out crotch half a year later, and your ideal pants are suddenly out of stock.
#4 Trends are Temporary, Style is Forever
If trends from the catwalk even make it to the store, they typically last about three years. In short, don’t overdo it by fully embracing a trend. Do you really like that bird print? Incorporate it subtly and combine it with classic items.
#5 Classics are Classics for a Reason
White sneakers, slim jeans, a good white shirt: some clothing is timeless because it simply looks good on everyone. Invest in classics that suit your body type and add them to your wardrobe.
#6 Less is more
Less is always better. A simple outfit complemented by a few strong, high-quality accessories that you actually use works wonders. Go for a timeless watch and a stylish leather briefcase.
#7 Choose your key item
Whether it’s a stylish blue blazer, the perfect white shirt that makes potential partners flock to you, or those jeans that give you legs like David Beckham, use these items as often as you can. After all, James Dean also pulled off his white T-shirt.
With these tips, you can prevent a bad purchase. This doesn’t mean you’ll never make a fashion mistake again, but at least you’re on the right track ;-).
