March 21, 2023 – Men’s fashion retailer Suitable has included waistcoats made entirely from recycled garments in its collection since early March. These have been produced in collaboration with Drop & Loop, marking the next step in the circular manufacturing of clothing for both organizations.

Last September, the collaboration between men’s fashion retailer Suitable and Drop & Loop began. Since then, customers could visit any Suitable store to drop off their old or unwanted clothing. Since its establishment in 1996, Suitable has aimed to operate sustainably in all aspects of its business. The partnership was a logical choice for founder and owner Raoul van Dun: “To truly excel, you must give back to the Earth. This calls for further sustainability.”

Respect for People and the Environment

The Loop waistcoats are part of the Suitable Respect clothing line. These are collections designed and produced in-house by Suitable. They collaborate with workshops in India, Thailand, China, and Turkey known for their responsible practices. Respect clothing items are made from certified organic cotton or recycled polyester and are dyed with natural dyes whenever possible. The focus during production has been on fabric quality and comfortable fits. Additionally, the designs are deliberately timeless to ensure they can be stylishly worn regardless of the latest fashion trends.

100% Sustainably Recycled

Drop & Loop’s waistcoats are made entirely from recycled fibers from collected clothing. The Wolkat factory in Tangier, Morocco, plays a central role in this process. Usable clothing items are given a second life by donating them to communities worldwide. The remaining old clothing is cleaned and hand-sorted by color and material. What makes this process unique is that it does not involve the use of water, dyes, or chemicals during recycling. Since the entire process takes place under one roof, unnecessary CO2 emissions and energy consumption are minimized. It is expected that the number of circular Suitable Respect clothing items will increase.

About Suitable

For over 25 years, Suitable has been the expert in sustainable and high-quality men’s fashion. What began in the student room of owner Raoul van Dun in Maastricht has since grown into a men’s fashion chain with sixteen locations in the Netherlands and a store in Antwerp. Whether the customer opts for the Suitable house label or other top brands, their wide range of fashion empowers the modern man. The Respect clothing line has recently received the Fairtrade Cotton label, reflecting Suitable’s commitment to a fair fashion industry.

About Drop & Loop

Drop & Loop is an organization dedicated to a sustainable world, focusing on reducing textile incineration. By reusing or recycling as many worn clothing items as possible, they contribute to the environment and promote circularity in the Netherlands. Through special collection points across the Netherlands and Belgium, Drop & Loop transports used clothing to Wolkat’s sorting center. Here, as many clothing items as possible are given a second life, while the remnants are processed into new clothing or other textile products.
