Everyday the perfect look: XXL+ clothing for every occasion.
In the course of a year, there are many different occasions where you need to dress appropriately. And no, we don’t mean that you have to buy a completely new outfit for every new occasion, but rather that you shouldn’t show up at a wedding wearing just jeans and a T-shirt. It’s advisable to have the perfect look for every day. Below, we’ll go through some occasions and briefly discuss what to pay attention to.
XXL Clothing for the Office
At the time of writing, the office is almost non-existent, and the kitchen table has become synonymous with the office. However, everything will return to normal, and men with a larger size will also need to wear office attire. You can roughly divide office attire into two categories: casual and formal, and each requires different clothing pieces. Let’s get into it.
Dressing Formally in Plus Sizes for the Office
We’ll start with formal attire, which can include a suit or dress pants and a blazer. In another blog, we’ll delve deeper into different plus sizes. For now, it’s important to know that everything should fit well. The pants shouldn’t be too long, the sleeves shouldn’t be too long, and a blazer or jacket should preferably close and fit snugly. Finding a suitable formal outfit can be a challenge. Therefore, always consult the size chart online or visit one of Suitable’s stores.
Going Casual in XXL Clothing for the Office
Casual attire is relatively easy to put together. A nice pair of jeans and a sweater, and you’re almost there. If you want to add some charm, wear a dress shirt under your sweater. This looks a bit neater without appearing too formal. If you want to appear fresh and energetic, opt for contrasting colors in your pants and tops. This gives a sportier and younger look. Of course, you can go for tone-on-tone, but it can become dull.
Tenue de Ville in Plus Sizes
You might have received an invitation to an event with a dress code of “Tenue de Ville,” which means you’re expected to wear a suit. For such events, you can add a nice pocket square to make the outfit more dazzling. For men with larger sizes, you’ll often find yourself in sizes 58, 60, 62, or even quarter sizes, which are sometimes considered plus sizes. Quarter sizes typically provide more room in the waist without adjusting the back panel and sleeve length. Perfect for someone with a stocky build.
To avoid looking too much like a bank employee in your suit, we advise against wearing a dark gray suit with a blue shirt. Combine a basic color suit (navy, charcoal) with a stylish plus-size shirt, with a collar size starting from 17 inches. If that’s not possible, keep it stylish with a white shirt, a neat tie, and a matching pocket square.
Plus Sizes for a dress-ball
If you have a ballroom event and wear suits in size 56 or larger, finding a suitable tuxedo or tailcoat can be a challenge. At Suitable, we go up to size 58 and offer different fits. With some negotiation, you might be able to order something larger from a supplier. What you should pay attention to is that the pants fall nicely on the shoes; you don’t want too much fabric at the bottom. Having a large size doesn’t necessarily mean you’re very tall, so the sleeves being too long is likely; have them shortened, just like the pants. For a tailcoat, you’ll also have a waistcoat. Ideally, it should cover the waistband of the trousers. Often, a waistcoat has a loop that allows you to attach it to the tab of the pants to keep it securely in place.
