The very first pair of jeans was brought into the world in the 19th century. It mainly served as work trousers for miners and was made of the blue twill denim, with a kind of rivets reinforcing the five pockets. The first jeans brands such as Levi Strauss applied for a patent for the jeans and at the time started a factory in San Francisco, making trousers and denim overalls for the gold diggers. Back then the jeans were not yet made as a fashion item but as extra sturdy workwear.
Today, denim is impossible to imagine without in the streetscape; moreover, it is now even seen as a fashion item, which it has certainly deserved over the years. Denim is such a trend that has been popping up constantly for years, and where a few years ago — and even now — it is still regularly doubted whether denim on denim is okay, the answer to this is now the more denim the better. It remains one of the most popular and most durable products that have been brought onto the market. Not surprising either, because a good pair of jeans remains our best buddy. It is one of the few items that isn't tied to age, gender or status. A good pair of jeans should therefore not be missing from your wardrobe.
With which denim will you steal the show? Jeans have been a favourite of many people for years. To make the search for the right pair a little easier for you, I'd like to share a few tips:
- Find a brand for yourself that suits you well.
- Determine in advance what kind of model you're looking for.
- Jeans can be quite pricey; if you buy a more expensive variant, then choose a timeless model so that you enjoy it for longer.
- Do you want jeans with a light or dark wash? The darker the jeans, the more they bleed; this is because an original denim fabric is dark in colour. The lighter the jeans, the more washes it has been through.
- Note that classic denim always stretches out by one size. Only if the denim has a coating is this not the case.
- Denim should not be washed with fabric softener; why? Because the fabric softener damages the elastane, which causes the jeans to stretch out faster.
- Ask the salespeople, because they know exactly what to look out for to get the right fit.
